h0l, aka Simon Carless, started out making music in the Amiga demo-scene back in 1988, and founded netlabel Monotonik (as Mono) in 1996 as an Amiga demo-scene .MOD group. Since then, the label has released on formats ranging from .MOD through .SID to MP3 and even CD. English-born Carless now lives in San Francisco, where he works as publisher of Game Developer magazine and Gamasutra.com , the leading information sources for video game creators. He also founded the netlabels section at the Internet Archive. In addition, his label Monotonik still releases electronic headphone listening music regularly - check it out at http://www.mono211.com.

 

netlabelism.net was founded to promote worldwide based netlabels and the music they offer under the Creative Commons (CC) license.
in the meantime there is a radio program called Netwaves, and netlabelism.net did a few gigs and parties.

El Sr.Click se inició en la música electrónica como dj en 1999. En 2004 se centró en la producción para poder un año más tarde dar a luz al netlabel "inoQuo" junto a Hermético y Dato. Desde entonces vive escondido en una cueva porque la fama y el éxito le impiden llevar una vida normal.

Sr. Aye is the first lemur to have been born in Los Boliches, although his niche within the global ecosystem is
found in Granada. He is a nocturnal animal, endowed with night vision and an outstanding hearing capacity.
For almost a decade, he has been collecting and storing sounds from his urban environment, to be used in times
of sound shortage. The core of his sound is experimental hip-hop, although he often switches to other milieus,
such as downtempo or minimal. In 2004 he joined other artists to form the Miga collective and the netlabel miga-label.org, a platform for the promotion and free distributionof audiovisual work.

"Marat Shibaev was born in Kazan in 7th April 1988. From the very beginning music took one of the most important places in his life. In year 2000 he came to know the electronic sound, which has conquered his mind. In two years, under the resonant name of Martin Schulte he started to write electronic music and get DJ skills. He was trying to experiment with sound, seeking his own direction and trying to be different from others."

...I first started playing around making music in about 1987 using pro tracker on the Commodore Amiga, I soon learnt my "making music from scratch skills" were extremely lacking. I use to mix early electro as early as 1984 ( I was fourteen, me and a friend use to use three tape decks, a mic and no mixer !!! it was terrible) got my first decks in 1990, at that time I was a Student in Portsmouth studying Film and Media studies although most of the time I was trying to get as good as CJ Bolland, (Never happened) I have used CD mixers but never got on with them, went digital 6 years ago, haven't looked back...

"At the middle of the 90's his brother and his friends held some home parties and played those old tracks. They bought so many casettes by various artists specially german techno. Elektrocell listened to
them but he was about 9 years old so he didnt know much about the music and the parties. After some years he decided to be a DJ and he started buying records. This learning part of his life based on a homemade 2 channel mixer and an old Taya turntable stolen from his father. When he got a PC one of his friend gave him an old version of fruity loops. He learnt to make music and spin records on his own. In that era he developed a strange techno style but that damn pc had so many problems and he had to start the whole thing again from zero. The internet changed and boosted his musical interests by the people he met there."

Mustermann from germany isn´t good in selling himself. He can´t list any radio, dj'ing or producing activities nor can he play an instrument.
Through his passion for electronic music he got attracted to more experienced and like-minded people on MDP ( m-d-p.net)[rip]. Because of his geekness he twiddled with easy-to-use-mixing-software and put out 3 mixes under his pseudonym Shapeshiphta so far.
Since the foundation of op3n.net Mustermann has been fascinated by the idea of copyleft music; artists focus on doing art, doing their thing, no matter what.

From near Paris, Thierry Massard has been writing about avantgarde music for some years and has allready stablished himself as one of the most seriuos and devoted opinions in the netlabel scene. I've been after his colaboration in op3n.net for months and after some subtile preasure, here it is. With a little help from his friends here's his selection. merci beacoup.

Young Kirill has no fear playing with any styles at all when mixing or producing. Kirill plays lovely material, including artists from his home country, classical and nu jazz, house, hiphop, triphop, much downtempo, 70th rock, pop and much more. In his live sets he is using vinyl and cds including scratches and effects. Have a look at his sets at mixotic too.

experienced Ferik has been mixing netaudio for many years and has provided a great information source for many people like you and me. italy, despite its actual president, has been an avantgarde nation since early futurists. don't hesitate to jump on any of ferik's micromixes available from his website and get a feel of the actual italian futurists.

KarPe was born in 1982 in Szczecin , Poland. He has been fascinated by the sounds of copyleft music for a couple of years. Because he wanted to share his fascination he founded "internetova.muzyka.pl", which was a first in Poland website promoting netlabels. Encouraged by the website's success he started mini-platform: "internetova muzyka extra". On the Christmas Eve 2005 he released "Last Christmas I Gave U My Track" compilation. On this release you can find tracks of producers from Szczecin e.g. Votchik , Misz , 2v and Dubai Quartet. After this he started playing netaudio tracks, in his dj-sets he shows a variety of minimal sounds, from straight minimal techno to the minimal-dub-house.

András Hargitai was born in 1984 in Budapest, Hungary. He still lives there. He started dj-ing when he was 17 years old, mostly spinning his own music and some idm/drillnbass/ambient tracks week after week at Radio Tilos which is the oldest and biggest non-profit radio station in Hungary. He played dj-sets at 6 radio stations so far, including the biggest state financed radio station Radio Petofi, and at more than 20 venues including the Sónar festival in 2004. In 2005, he founded the independent electronica label Bitlab Records with his mate Cooler (Chi Recordings/U-Cover), and maintains it succesfully with him since then, releasing his music and other talented artists' works.

Kernel32 is the plinky-plonky-IDM-electronics project of shy Manchester-born slacker Alex Kearney. Before being brought to the earth of the fabulous day of Christmas Eve 1983, Alex used to rock plinks and plonks in the womb. His mission, to half-heartedly exist and do nothing but attempt to make nice music, procrastinate and drink tea.

Alex is also known as Bannister Boy, his ambient-cutuppianos&strings-niceness-whatever project, or can occasionally be seen sneaking around in the shadows terrorising anyone with an ipod, his sworn enemy.

He is influenced by early Orbital & Autechre and has a wide range of tastes ranging from ambient to folk to latvian banjo trance.

Orphax is the ambient drone project of Sietse van Erve.

Influenced by artists such as Troum and Thomas Köner, Orphax makes slowly evolving, emotionally loaded music which takes you into a deep dark world. Over the years he has released several mp3s which are all free for download from his own website, orphax.tk as well as through the Internet Archive.

In 2004 the first Orphax non-mp3album "In A Long Night" was released. This was a CD-R release, limited to 100 pieces and it sold out quite fast, but can still be listened to here on last.fm.

In early 2005 the album "Sand In Boxes" was released on The Verato Project. The first edition was limited to 60 pieces and comes with a special bag of sand. It is possible to listen to this album at last.fm over here.

Hi, I´m NerVioLence of TiJJera Records and it´s a pleisure to release this mixtape for a netlabel initiative like Op3n.net A lot of the stuff you can listen on it are unseen tracks (no released neither in my 12" vynils nor in my web site) It was funny to do.Well, now instead of following this text I´ve just decided to give some words I would like you link with me and my music: bizarre, richness, nervous, virtuosity, insane, breaks, freedom, art, hard, minimal, labs, painter, original, psycho, complex, smart, punk, anti-punk, true.

 

I created a little magazine and directed a weekly radio show. I love words. I create music since the age of 11. I love sounds. I like communication. I think a good artist is someone who enhances mankind.

Alejandro was born in La Coruña in 1980 and he now lives in Guadalajara, Spain. He is a history student, as well as a musician and graphic artist. During the last 10 years he has been making some interesting things in fields like strip cartoons, fotography, mail-art, and painting. He studied arts in high school is now finishing a degree in History at the Alcala de Henares University: his fields of interest are the history of propaganda and international brigadist during the Spanish Civil War, social history of the first years of Francisco Franco's Regime, and contemporary history of political relations.
As Konsumprodukt, he creates electro landscapes with an ironic vision of the media and human behavior, using a wide range of electronic sounds and spoken word. He has published five releases as Konsumprodukt: three on the german netlabel Tonatom (Kaiserlautern.Germany), and two on Red Antenna. He also releases music under the aliases “Elias Falken” and “Prosper Prowano”.
